Forwarding checks

How we notice when mail to your own address stops reaching the pipe.

How we check

Mail forwarded from your address proves the rule works, so busy pipes are never tested. If a pipe has had no forwarded mail for a day, we send a “Waribox forwarding check” message to your address once a day and watch for it to come through. It never reaches your members.

When a check fails

A check that hasn’t come through by our next hourly run counts as missed, and is sent again. After two misses in a row we treat forwarding as broken: the pipe page shows a warning, the account owner gets an email, and replies go out from the pipe’s Waribox address.

Fixing it

Check that your address still forwards to the pipe’s Waribox address at your email host. Once mail comes through again, we switch back to your address on our own and email you to say so. You can also run the first test on the pipe page again.
